The Hesston Steam Museum is Literally getting fired up to kick off its 52nd Operating season this Memorial Day weekend, May 24-26. The museum boasts the area's largest collection of Authentic, turn-of-the-century steam-powered equipment. AND the Hesston Steam Museum is less than a gas tank away in Hesston, Ind. – conveniently located near Chicago, Northern Indiana and Southwestern Michigan. Families will experience our nation's industrial past come to life! Hesston will bring out its distinctive Shay Logging Locomotive, which will once again pull trains of visitors over the museum's two-and-a-half mile full-sized railroad. Other special equipment operating the Memorial Day weekend are the group's quarter scale steam railroad with miniature trains built in the 1930s. Volunteers on this railroad built a new bridge for the line during the off season and is now ready for trains to cross! The 1/8th scale railroad with steam trains hand built to original railroad blueprints, will have many trains steamed-up and features a under over bridge on it’s figure-eight mainline. All three railroads will be in operation giving rides around the museum’s beautiful 155 acre grounds. The steam saw mill, electric light plant and steam-powered industrial tractors along with the big 92 ton steam crane will also be in operation. The museum's gift shop, The Depot Store, also features a new look, new toys, lots of books, videos, engineer’s hats, whistles and more for kids of all ages. Great food is available or guests bring a picnic and enjoy the park-like setting! Trains operate Saturday, May 24, through Memorial Day (Monday) Noon to 5 CDT.
